Enhancing Your Office Space

The employees and visitors to Carolina’s small event planning company knew there was something special about the office, a subtle feeling that made everyone feel comfortable, at home, and at ease. Work was done well and there was a lot of work to be done, but there was also a general feeling of enjoyment and positivity. Carolina certainly set the example with her leadership, work ethic and attention to employee’s wellbeing. Visitors also felt the warmth and positive attitude of each interaction with every staff member when they came in. What everyone might not have thought twice about, but Carolina had planned carefully, was the layout and décor of the office. Having worked for years in various environments, Carolina knew that the space you work in has a major effect on your psychology. She knew that she herself was more productive when she was happy to be in a space, and not only the social aspect but also the visual and physical environment made a difference. When she decorated the company office, she made sure to include comfortable furniture for the waiting room, group meeting space that was cozy for her staff, and art, plants and flowers that added a nice touch. Her favorite piece, however, was the water fountain installed on the wall.

The indoor water fountain ran continuously, and the light passing through the fountain had a beautiful effect that all the customers admired. Carolina found the sound of running water to be a perfect source of white noise to block the sounds of traffic outside, the distractions of other conversations and ringing phones, and the hum of the photocopier. It brought a sense of the outdoors into the office, which helped relive stress, even if those around the room didn’t realize it. The sound of running water naturally soothed the minds of listeners, and Carolina herself knew that when she was feeling tense, she had only to close her eyes and concentrate on the fountain’s gentle flow to re-center herself.

The health benefits she’d read about were impressive, too: water fountains improved the air quality of a space by releasing negative ions, which clung to dust and impurities, pulling particles down to be vacuumed up later. The fountain also reduced harm from allergens, and by naturally humidifying the air, helped build up the respiratory defenses of all those in the room, fighting flue and sore throats. It also helped the air smell fresh. Carolina had dreaded the stale air quality and germ-fest environment of many offices where she had worked in past years. Bringing in natural elements that helped to fight the factors that often resulted in many sick employees was an important part of keeping a good office space. The air also smelled clean and fresh, a world of difference from sickly sweet air fresheners or toxic-smelling cleansers. The water fountain was a subtle piece, but it made a real difference.

There were a great variety of fountains available to choose from, and Carolina had considered the different types to see what would work best for her. There were wall mounted fountains that could fit a large or small wall space, free standing fountains that could be placed in a corner or central area as a focal point, or even table top fountains that could fit on a counter or desk. Carolina’s wall mounted fountain was the perfect size for the room and could be seen from anywhere in the office, a beautiful piece that caught the eye of guests as soon as they walked in. She had chosen a ceramic style that brought a feeling of sunny Southwestern escape to the room and went well with the flowers and plants in the office, but the other options of stainless steel, stone and copper had all been beautiful too.

Carolina knew that the subtle touches in her office made an enormous difference to her customers and employees. She had gotten many compliments on the beautiful fountain from guests and clients, and many employees commented that it was their favorite artwork or piece of furniture that the office had. The benefits to the air quality were a bonus to the stress relief everyone gained from the fountain.
