Indoor Fountains: Simple Morale Boosters

It seems that businesses are always looking for cheap, subtle ways of increasing their public relations.  Especially these days, with stresses on the business district as high as they are, no entrepreneurs can afford to overlook even the smallest advantage.  Something that will make the customers feel relaxed and happy, and hopefully have the same effect on your staff.  And if that same, little touch makes the atmosphere just a little healthier for both customers and employees then so much the better.  But what could do all of those things?  The simple answer is an indoor fountain.

While it might sound like a silly suggestion at a glance, more a wasteful expenditure than a real investment, an indoor fountain is just the opposite.  For one thing, a fountain adds a touch of the unique to any décor.  Most businesses are always looking for a way to make their waiting rooms, foyers, etc. seem more dynamic, and incorporating a fountain into the design can do just that.  Of course if one wanted to add an extra flair to the room, putting the proper light source on an indoor fountain would create a miniature spectacle as the light passed through the flowing water.  As in most design efforts, it’s the little touches that really pull a room together.

In addition to the feel that an indoor fountain can bring to any room, there is a huge variety of options to choose from when picking out said fountain.  Most people when they think of indoor fountains will think of the gigantic displays of art and expense that are usually found in shopping malls, or the lobbies of corporate headquarters.  That is of course an option, if you have the space for it.  Most businesses however don’t.  Smaller fountains, such as those who occupy a tabletop, or which are mounted on a wall can add a similar, tasteful touch without the expense, space, and upkeep.  However, the size of a water fountain is only one consideration.  The next thing to consider is the material it should be made out of.  Common choices are fountains made of stone, stainless steel, ceramics, and copper, though there will be other options that are less common.  Once the size and material are chosen, the only choice that’s left to decide is the style.  From children at a well to prancing unicorns, a fountain can be as tasteful or over the top, as artistic or as gaudy as is required.  It all depends on the impression that a business will want to leave, its budget, and general interior design.

The visual benefits of having an indoor fountain are fairly obvious, as well as its value as a centerpiece of any room.  There are however, other benefits to having an indoor fountain.  Any business is a stressful place.  Whether it’s a person waiting for their appointment, or a customer service representative who’s watching the clock for their shift to end, the end results are usually the same.  It’s been proven that the sound of running water can relax tensions in a room, and help to soothe the minds of those listening.  An indoor fountain is a perfect way to help bring a bit of the peace of mind of a stream right into your waiting room.

A calmed mind isn’t the only benefit of having an indoor fountain in the room though.  While a fountain is running, the flowing water releases negative ions into the air.  Those negative ions float through the air and cling to dust and dirt particles, bringing them down to the ground to be vacuumed up more easily.  The effects of this are fairly simple really; since there’s less dust and dirt in the air, there are also fewer allergens to effect those present.  In addition, the air will smell fresher and cleaner with a fountain running.  A second health benefit to an indoor fountain is that it will naturally humidify the air.  If the air is humidified, it helps your body fight off respiratory conditions, such as the flu, sore throats, the common cold, etc.

So, with just by looking a little bit closer, one can easily see all of the benefits that a business could gain by having an indoor water fountain.  Morale will improve, stress will decrease, and there will be an interesting new piece to begin conversations and distract those customers who are waiting.  And while your customers and employees might not know the benefits of having an indoor fountain, it might add an extra bit of curiosity by putting some of the facts near the fountain itself.  Just in case one were curious to know the thought put into the investment.

Hi! I recently introduced a website related to backyards and gardens and will be including information about all sorts of topics related to making your outdoor space more personal, fun, functional and relaxing. I came across your site and thought we could both benefit by exchanging links, since our topics are related. You can check out my site at www.backyardsandgardens.com. It is fairly new so it doesn’t have a ton of content yet, but will be a great informational resource as time goes on.

If you are interested in exchanging links on our sites, please let me know.

    Thanks!
